Passive Building Design

(Planning your new home? Discover the advantages of a passive house.)

Our office undertakes the design of Passive Buildings and spaces (both indoor and outdoor) based on their geometry and the local climate, as well as the implementation of the required energy efficiency interventions.

From the outside, a Passive House looks no different than a conventional one. The term “Passive House” refers to a building standard, not a specific construction method.

Regardless of climate or location, Passive Houses maintain a comfortable and pleasant indoor temperature all year round with minimal energy demand. At the same time, mechanical ventilation systems ensure the supply of fresh, filtered air, offering excellent indoor air quality without noticeable noise due to their low sound levels.

The combination of stable indoor temperatures and proper air exchange helps prevent moisture-related damage and mold growth.

A Passive House follows five fundamental principles:

A Passive House uses up to 90% less energy for heating and cooling compared to conventional buildings in Central Europe. As a result, it requires less than 1.5 liters of oil or 1.5 cubic meters of natural gas per year to heat one square meter of living space.

The building requires only 15 kWh/m² per year for heating, cooling, and domestic hot water (DHW). In addition, primary energy consumption does not exceed 120 kWh/m² per year.
